Forucedale horses graze pastures year-round. In the Summer they live at Sprucedale, and in the winter they live at the Lower Ranch--pasture near Lyman Lake. This is about 50 miles from Sprucedale, over the mountains and through the woods, to juniper-spotted hills of high desert country. For the Fall Horse Drive we gather the horses at Sprucedale and spend three days herding them off the mountain to the Lower Ranch. This is a real-life, hands-on experience through some amazing country. Each day we ride you will spend a fair amount of time in the saddle, and the day we drop from Big Lake to Eagar will be approximately a six-hour ride. To be prepared you should have at least forty hours of riding experience. This ride is generally fast paced, and riders should be able to post. Lodging will be in cabins at the ranch. We will supply the horses, tack, food, and cabins. Only a limited number of riders will be allowed, so book early.

What will the weather be like?
Spring can get a little warm and Fall a little cold. There is a chance of rain or a random snowstorm. Layers, outerwear, and sun protection are suggested. We encourage you to check the weather prior to your arrival and plan accordingly. Our gift shop has t-shirts, hoodies and hats available for purchase.

How well do I have to ride to qualify to participate?
You need to be an intermediate rider that has ridden at least 40 hours and be physically fit and in good health.
